Hello, my name is Tina Cuerrier ... by Tina

Tina Hello, my name is Tina Cuerrier, ever since I can remember I have always wanted to travel to Africa, but I wanted to go with a cause or purpose. I can’t think of a better way to fulfill this dream than helping raise funds for the “Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign”.

At 52 years old I’m not currently a grandmother but would like to join their ranks someday. My wonderful husband Michel has been very supportive of my dream. When we discussed the cost of the trip, helping these destitute women was the only justification that we needed. We could never have considered spending this kind of money otherwise.

Sarah is my 28 year old daughter who is articling at a Toronto law firm, and will be called to the bar in June; and last but never least is my 15 year old son, James who’s still in high school.

I work full-time in the community as a Registered Practical Nurse.

I can remember when the AIDS epidemic began years ago, not long after I took a course called “Understanding AIDS” at Algonquin College. I remember thinking “no one should have to live or die with this terrible virus, and the stigma around it”. Since then we have come a long way, with the education, treatment, prevention, and a better understanding of AIDS and its related illnesses. Though in many areas like those in Africa, it continues to take its toll on people like the grandmothers of Africa. For me climbing Kilimanjaro is nothing compared to the day to day challenges the grandmothers of Africa face, the grandmothers have no choice in what affects them daily but I chose to climb Kilimanjaro. I have always been an adventurer and am always up for a challenge, it never crossed my mind once that I will not reach the summit; once I make up my mind to do something big or small I do it. I feel honored and proud to be a part of Gisele’s team, in helping to raise funds for this campaign; every little bit helps. I truly believe if you want something and believe in it you can do it. Never give up on your dreams, I didn’t and I am about to live one.
