September 9th, 2006 - Line Dance WorkshopLine dancing has been around for decades but what you will see on a line dancing floor today is nothing like what you might remember from the days of “Achy Breaky Heart”. Back then, line dancers danced only to country music. Now, if you like a mix of country, latino, disco, salsa, pop, swing, celtic and even hip hop music, then you should be line dancing. Line-dancing workshops throughout the afternoon followed by a cold meal, a silent auction, raffles and of course more dancing. As a lead in to the event baked goods and 50/50 tickets are being sold at their weekly get-togethers. |
Line Dance Workshops: Noon to 5pm

Line dancing has been around for decades but what you will see on a line dancing floor today is nothing like what you might remember from the days of “Achy Breaky Heart”. Back then, line dancers danced only to country music. Now, if you like a mix of country, latino, disco, salsa, pop, swing, Celtic and even hip hop music, then you should be line dancing. Line dancing is done all over the world. For those who like to travel, there are dance workshops across Canada and the US, in Europe and in Asia where you can dance all weekend and learn from top level choreographers and instructors. In the beginning, line dancers wore cowboy costumes, complete with boots, and hats. Today, dress is more casual and there are no cowboy hats. OK. Sometimes there are cowboy hats, but that’s a fashion statement, not a dress code. The Crazy Soles came together in April, 2002. Our dance floor is open to everyone and is a great place to meet new friends and socialise with other dancers. We have a variety of teachers who will teach you line dances at levels from ultra beginner to advanced. We get together on Tuesday nights, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at the Overbrook Community Center, 33 Quill Street, in Ottawa (off the Vanier Parkway). The cost is only $5. The first hour is for beginners. Every second week, one of the teachers will teach a new dance. It will be reviewed the following week. The level steps up to intermediate at 7:30. There is a new dance taught every week and a review from the previous week. After the lessons, we have plenty of time for open dance and dancers at all levels are welcome to stay and dance their favorites. Once a month we have a social dance on a Saturday night, from 7:00 pm until midnight, a great opportunity to strut your stuff. We’ll teach older dances that were popular “back then” and are still popular all over the world. Everyone needs a trip down memory lane once in a while. Approximately twice a year we also have an all day workshop, followed by a spaghetti dinner and a night of open dancing. Our “extended” dance family from Cornwall, Montreal, Quebec City, Trenton and Kingston join us for many of these events. For further information, you can contact me, Michel Cabana, at (613) 830-5399 or on my cell at (613) 791-1791. Keep smiling, keep dancing and have fun.
